The designs of children's playgrounds must accommodate creativity because they are meant to be a center for a child's imagination. Danish companies like Lego and Monstrum are household names for their inventive playset designs, but some designers just don't seem to get it.
Although we don't know what the makers of this strange playground equipment had in mind, we believe it to be completely inappropriate. Sure, they might think that kids see the same thing adults see, but it's still up there on the weird list. On the upside, you can always bring your child here if the question of "where is babies from" ever pops up.
Thomas The Trainwreck

Sometimes things don't go according to plan, and Thomas here is an example of that. We bet the creators of this wooden version of Thomas didn't know it'll turn out like this at the start. If this was meant to make children happy, someone seriously did a lousy job—or an excellent job at terrifying them instead.
Just take a look at this depressing bit of plaything. It looks like Thomas here suffered from some serious maltreatment; add to that: the black stuff running off its eyes, and we have an awful-looking Thomas on our hands. Even the story's creator, Wilbert Awdry, would be dissatisfied with this creation.
This Tunnel That Is All Kinds Of Wrong

Who knew something as innocent as an inflatable tunnel could be so inappropriate? This looks like a game that kids shouldn't be playing, and we're positive we're not the only ones who agree with that. How did this get past all the design people without someone flagging this as being a little too explicit?
That aside, this nylon tunnel doesn't seem like a very wise or healthy option because it certainly looks like suffocation waiting to happen. It would have been better if it had more room and not just a tiny wiggle space. There should certainly be a regulation in place for this kind of thing.
What's Pikachu Doing?

We wonder how the inventor of Pokémon would feel if he were to come across this version of Pikachu. Pokémon, which is an abbreviation for "pocket monster," was created in 1996, and its franchise is reportedly the highest-grossing media franchise of all time. Apart from successful anime TV series and video games, they also have some of the best-selling toy brands in the world.
Pikachu here is one of the most popular Pokémon species, though this particular version is strange to us. It seems that there was a miscommunication between concept and execution because this is the most inappropriate version of the character we've ever seen.
Poor, Little Zebra

We really don't understand what the children were intended to learn from this or how it was supposed to be enjoyable because it appears to be the playground from hell. Not only does this appear to be a headless zebra, but it also appears that the head was deliberately removed, and the neck was painted crimson to look like blood.
There are plenty of other options that could have replaced this creature, such as a beautifully carved stone zebra statue or a rocking horse that kids can play with. Not only are rocking horses fun to play with, but they're also educational toys that improve mobility and encourage exercise—but this one seems to be far from it!
As Seen on a South Korea Playground

It's not actually clear what's going on with this South Korean playground structure since the kids on this figure don't seem to have heads, but it is most definitely not okay. While this may have sounded good in theory, it doesn't look like something children should be playing with. Perhaps, we are reading too much into it.
It appears to be a botched attempt to replicate the "human train" game which is a typical South Korean game where the losing team assumes this stance, and the victorious team jumps and sits on their backs. The issue here is whether the losing team can carry the weight of the winning squad.
Kids Learn More About Gravity
We might have thought that this was a design failure, but on a closer look, it appears that it was a maintenance failure. The empty bolt holes suggest that the final piece of the slide is missing. Non-impact absorbing surfaces, such as concrete, asphalt, grass, gravel, or soul, are one of the things to stay away from when on a playground.
Slides like this are supposed to be safe for kids to play with, and one of the mechanisms put in place for this is having a soft landing. Some surface materials that are shock absorbing include rubber mats, wood fiber, artificial turf, and synthetic grass—these should have been used instead!
The Pissing Rainbow Statues

Although this doesn't look like a playground, it's included because it appears kids find things like this funny as adults do. Nothing says "child-like curiosity" like multi-colored urine bars. These statues of colorful boys taking a colorful piss are situated in Kyiv, Ukraine. It is called "Rainbow," and it is one of the 17 art objects that appeared in the First Ukrainian Park of Modern Sculpture and Installation "Kyiv Fashion Park" in 2011.
Well, compared to the previous ones, this appears to be quite hilarious and actually fun. Kids can walk the pathway, take pictures, and have something to talk about. Plus, it's not as inappropriate.
Bad Engineering

At first glance, this may appear to be safe, but when one imagines a kid sliding while their legs are wide apart, it'll be easier to see how dangerous it really is. Slides can be entertaining, but they also pose a risk if they aren't properly installed and maintained. The danger of injury to children can be decreased by using the right slide equipment.
Slides should be well-anchored with firm handrails and have good traction on the steps. In addition, the edges should be rounded to prevent injuries and cuts. In as much as this particular slide meets those requirements, its three-way design makes it a safety concern.
Saddest Mickey Mouse Ever

Failures in design can happen. Mostly, it's a minor error, but sometimes the result of that error results in an unbelievable appearance. This image looks so terrifying it'll probably have the opposite effect of what a playground should give. Not only is it a monstrosity, but many kids will have a hard time knowing that this is Mickey Mouse.
One of Disney's characters, Mickey Mouse is the mascot of The Walt Disney Company, and he's the most famous of them all. He is known to be a jolly, easy-going, and carefree guy, but in this image, he looks far from being his jolly self.
Worst Spot for a Slide
Clearly, this was not taken in a neighborhood park, but this is precisely the statement we are making. This slide is definitely out of place. It appears to have been taken from a playground and transported to this arbitrary place, which appears to be the less upscale area of the city.
Perhaps the house advertisement states that it has a playground for children to attract potential residents, in which case it will likely have the opposite effect. We most certainly wouldn't want to see kids playing here. In fact, it is a very spooky picture when you think about it.
Inappropriate Spiderman Bounce Castle

Even though it seems like the tourists and children are having a great time, Spidey is most definitely not. Oh! The humiliation! This "friendly neighbor" is a little too nice, and he's in a compromising situation, so we can't be the only ones who think it's somewhat inappropriate.
Considered one of the most successful and well-received superheroes characters ever, Spider-Man is one of the most popular superheroes in Marvel comics. It was created in the '60s at a time when there was high demand for comic characters. He has since been featured in films, TV shows, video games, and plays—but we never imagined him to be featured like this!
What's This Supposed to Mean?
Some playground designs are so obscenely uncomfortable and inappropriate that we can't exactly imagine the thought process that designers had for them. Certainly, we can't be the only ones who find this quite inappropriate, especially the part where the kids exits.
Inflatable playground equipment is one of the safest play equipment, but if safety precautions are not followed, it could lead to a disaster. Serious incidents can happen if inflatables collapse. For safety purposes, kids are required not to wear shoes or glasses and to also empty their pockets of all sharp or dangerous items which can poke the equipment.
How Does That Teach You Braille?

We suspect that unless this Braille was specifically designed for children who are 6'2" tall, they didn't really want them to learn it. We can only speculate as to what these kids could look like, but we have a sneaking suspicion that you wouldn't want to run into them in a pitch-black alley.
In addition to being risky for kids in general, how do they expect a child who has vision impairment to scale such a platform? Braille boards are supposed to contain a row of three with ten cells in each row. The board is a learning tool used to make different words or sentences, but this doesn't look like a safe one to use.
This Awful Slide Placement
Kids may not be better judges of these things, but some adults probably find this inappropriate. The elephant slide is a variation of a playground slide where kids enter through the elephant's mouth and exit through its backside. This playground equipment is pretty popular, and multiple versions of it can be found in both indoor and outdoor playgrounds.
Although the concept may be a tad questionable, many children and adults find it hilarious. On the positive side, the slide can be a fun way to educate kids on how the digestive system works. That way, the kids get to learn while also having a great time.
This Terrifying Playground for Children

Consider this: you've just picked up the children from school and all they want to do is play and run around. So you decided to take them to the park so they can let off some of their energy. And then you noticed this. Bummer!
This was actually specially commissioned by a French sculptor named Niki de Saint Phalle because she believed that it was best for children to deal with their fears in a secure environment. The sculpture is known affectionately as "The Monster." Even though that seems like a fantastic idea, we believe playgrounds should be used for fun, and frightful monsters don't exactly fit into that.
A Playground In Poland

If you work as a playground designer and want to create a space where kids will enjoy swinging, running, climbing, and jumping while giggling, then stay away from these examples. There are odd and perplexing playground designs seen all across the world that are inconceivably unrelated to the needs of actual, livable children.
This particular one is one of them. This structure definitely looks like something, we just can't put our finger on it. On the bright side, it can be used to explain to older kids what the consequences of intimacy without protection looks like as this looks rather unhealthy.
A Friendly Pirate

Coming up with fresh concepts for playgrounds and watching them come to life can be enjoyable and exciting for playground designers. However, while constructing playgrounds, it is also vital to consider safety issues even though it can be challenging to strike a balance between children's safety and happiness.
This design wouldn't be so bad if the sword was made of a different material. But seeing as the whole set was part of an inflatable model, it cannot be helped. While many children may not comprehend what we are seeing in this situation, we can't say the same for adults.
Misrepresentation of Spiderman

This Spidey may not look like the previous one in the bouncing castle; it's still all shades of wrong. First, it appears that someone lacks a thorough understanding of their superheroes. For starters, this particular pose, especially the outstretched arm, is more linked to Superman.
Another overlooked detail is that the outfit—which has his underwear on the outside—is also similar to Superman's regular costume. All of these suggest that there may have been a communication error that led to Superman being mistakenly depicted as Spider-Man. On the plus side, of all the playground toys we've found on this list, this one seems to be the least offensive.
Made of Nightmares
In this chaotic world, there are occasionally events that cause you to stop and wonder, "Well, what in the heavens is going on here?" One of those is this. This would undoubtedly be the Simpsons in a medieval time come to life. We wonder how many young children have experienced nightmares as a result of this horrifying Simpsons representation.
The Simpsons are comic characters from the animated sitcom of the same name, and they're an American family consisting of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. This sculpture is supposed to represent Homer and Lisa, but the sculptor and the painter obviously did a poor job.
No Fun, No Hurt
The issue of child safety is one of the most crucial aspects of designing a family-friendly park. We must ensure that no one will be harmed or injured by any of the facilities and attractions in the public area. This playground's designers did, however, overlook one little detail: it must still be enjoyable!
We assume that some overprotective parents thought that the slide was simply too risky for their treasured children, hence it is off-limits. They probably didn't take into account the possibility that children would see this as a challenge and climb over the green wall in order to slide down.
Where's the Sun?

Since the sixteenth century, the notion that the solar system revolves around the earth has been disproved by scientists like Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei, demonstrating that the earth and other solar systems actually revolve around the Sun. Over 500 years have passed, and this playground still hasn't gotten the memo.
They appear to have completely forgotten about the biggest star in the system. Can we actually call this a solar system since it has no sun, which is vital to the existence of life on the planets? What about the moon in all of this? But it's wonderful that they managed to remember to mention Pluto.
Not Really a Tic-Tac-Toe Board

We appreciate a contemporary playground with interactive activities built right into the playthings so that little ones can enjoy them without any issues. However, it appears that the creators of this set have never really played the game.
Because if they had, they would have noticed immediately away that the third row is missing, which is something very significant! The tic tac toe game is supposed to consist of Xs and Os on a three-by-three grid that players can take turns crossing. But with only two rows on this board, how are we supposed to practice our tic tac toe techniques and tactics? It is practically impossible to play the game.
Just Admiring The View!
Designers ought to be aware by this point that some animals, cartoon characters, and people don't make ideal playground rides. Perhaps the best course of action would be to simply install high-quality equipment in a playground and give up on this sort of stuff. Or, even better, design them in a way that doesn't put them in such a ridiculously inappropriate situation.
This is a little disturbing, so whoever designed it should have had Donald Duck from Disney looking the other way at the very least. Although children might not see anything wrong with this, it will certainly have many adults scratching their heads.
Homer Or A Giant Bird
The elephant slide and this monstrosity rank in the same category. Seriously, we have no idea why this is a wise decision and so widespread. You'd think that anything that kids are intended to play with would receive a lot of thought.
If the purpose of this is to represent Homer from The Simpsons, it fails miserably because it more closely resembles a huge bird with a slide on one side and steps up its back. Not only that, but it also has these swings on its arm that, in our opinion, are unnecessary. Kids may enjoy this, but that doesn't change the fact that it's totally wrong.
Spongepup Dogpants

SpongeBob SquarePants is a comic character from an animated TV series with the same name. He's characterized by his childlike and optimistic attitude that you can't help but smile when he appears on your screen with his funny facial expressions. However, we've never seen anything like this before, save from the fact that it has SpongeBob's jolly face, and for some reason, it makes us uneasy.
It appears that Sandy, the squirrel, and SpongeBob conceived a child, and the child developed into a plaything. If this was not the story behind this, then we'd like someone to come and explain SpongeBob's mammal arms and legs to us.
Another Dimension

This compass must be on the same playground as the planetary system without a sun poster. At first glance, you might assume that the only inaccurately labeled item is the set of instructions. When you looked closely, you would see that the dial in the center had four identical points, rendering this compass completely useless. Someone failed their basic navigation test.
A compass is meant to be a navigational instrument used to determine the main direction, and it consists of a magnetized needle that usually points to the North end. The compass greatly improved the safety and efficiency of travel, especially ocean travel.
Gulag Fun Time

Gulags were forced labor camps that existed from the '30s to '50s under the rule of Joseph Stalin. Prisoners, especially political ones, are kept there and forced to work very hard. although this might seem like an extreme comparison, the playground in this picture looks more like a detention center with its fence and barbed wires.
Looking at this playground which is said to be a private kindergarten in Omsk, Russia, we are left wondering specifically what they are attempting to keep in or out. They may be trying to keep reckless individuals out because the surroundings are not particularly safe.
Kids Playground In Ukraine

The memories that are made on a playground are its best feature. From your go-to swing to that lightning-fast slide to the game of grounders you couldn't put down, there's something for everyone. However, different playgrounds evoke memories for various reasons.
Here is a spooky slide from Ukraine. The reasoning behind this strange playground equipment puzzles us, to say the least. We don't understand how anyone or any group of people could sit down and decide that this strange invention will amuse kids. In terms of scale, it appears to be an intriguing and magnificent sliding structure, but the questionable design is straight out of a nightmare.
Meet Vini Pooh

Winnie the Pooh is a fictional character that was named after a stuffed toy owned by the son of its creator, A.A. Milne. Pooh is another character that has been adopted for television and film by The Walt Disney Company. Pooh is depicted to be a naive but friendly and thoughtful character who is far more pleasant to look at than the character in the image above.
To be fair, the name tag on it reads Vini Pooh which kind of justifies the different look. Given that there are countless sample materials available, occasionally we question if the businesses who produce these toys do it on purpose.
